As you come for therapy, you will find out that our office works a little differently than a traditional occupational therapy office…

What To Expect

We use primarily breath, awareness, sensory and movement exploration to identify functional disorganization in one’s brain/body, and to create new neurological and energetic pathways that will support change and organization. Thus, restrictions in one’s fascia/body, mind, soul, heart, and/or energy systems that might be triggering pain or blocking one’s potential in life can be identified and released. We can also explore the influence of one’s family system and address any challenges this might present. The outcome: the innate skill development and individual potential that is coded in the cells of our bodies can find a way to be expressed. Life becomes easier and more joyful!

How Does It Work?

Ongoing assessment of your needs and desires will allow us to determine which approach your system might need in any given session. At times, one’s pain might be the result of a physical injury to a local muscle, or a reflection of tissue misalignment caused by an injury to a different area of the body. For example, tightness on one side of your hip may misalign the bones of the pelvis and create a pull on the tissue (fascia) in your chest, which in turn triggers the shoulders to round forward and lock the neck bones, ligaments and/or nerves in place, creating the neck pain you might be experiencing. Thus, to release the neck pain, we may need to work first on the hip.

To treat this, your system may need CranioSacral therapy, which identifies and releases restrictions around the spinal cord and the brain. This improves the communication between one’s brain and body allowing for diminished pain, enhanced immunity, and improved function. In other cases, one’s system may benefit from Somato Emotional Release, facilitating the release of spiritual, emotional, and/or physical trauma memories that might be blocking the body from recovering function. When the source of a problem is the result of one’s system’s response to stress, we may use Reiki (gentle hand placement on various parts of your body to organize energy flow), Brain Gym  (use of coordinated movements in a goal oriented process to organize the physical skills involved in easy, efficient and joyful learning and living), or Qi-Gong (slow and coordinated movements of one’s body to increase their vital energy). Chakra Balance may be another treatment option to support organization and strengthening of one’s vital energy.

How Many Sessions Do I Need?

While there is no way of knowing for sure how many total sessions a client will need in order to achieve their intended goals, progress can be observed, both by patient and therapist, rather quickly. In general, clients can begin to experience progress between the first and the fourth sessions, depending on how chronic and intense one’s challenges are, as well as what they expect to achieve. The patient is asked to notice any functional changes they experience during and following each session, and how long the obtained outcomes last. This information, along with the therapist’s observations, is used to determine how often a client will need therapy. It is also important to take into consideration the patient’s ability to afford treatment without stressing out about the cost. As stress management is one of the intentions of the services we provide to everyone, experiencing financial stress would be counterproductive. Patients will quickly learn to determine, with the therapist’s help, how to spread out their sessions in order to gain the most from their therapy without financial burden. Additionally, therapy sessions involve client’s training in interventions and/or education in lifestyle changes which the patient can incorporate in their daily routine to decrease the need for frequent intervention. The more actively engaged the patient and family are, the fewer sessions are required, and the more affordable the treatment becomes.  Patients often report that  they gain greater benefits, in fewer sessions in our office, than in months or years of treatment in traditional therapies they tried previously.
